North Central Specialty

I'm back from the North Central American Whippet Club Specialty. Both Broc and Beebe were little troopers and showed like champs. Broc got 2nd in his class both days, which really is good when you have a big whippet entry. The only issue we had was Broc had a little diarreha in the ring on Friday, which was not so very pleasant. Beebe was a little rock star and showed great for Shawn both days. Alas no award of merit or Best of Breed though.

CC on the other hand did very well. She got an Award of Merit on Friday and then Best of Breed and a Group 1 on Sunday. Yeah for CC and Scot.

Currently I'm getting really for the Cedar Rapids Kennel Associations dog show this coming weekend. It will be fun and we'll definitely have a blast.

I hope everyone is doing well.

Broc Wins Again

Broc went to the Burlington shows last weekend and did very well. Scot showed him to some perfect wins on Saturday under Joseph Gregory. He took Winners Dog, Best of Winners and Best of Breed. Then Shawn showed him in groups, and although he didn't place Shawn did a very nice job of showing him. Then on Sunday Scot showed him and he won Winners Dog. So that makes a total of 6 points for Mr Broc. Pretty good considering he hardly ever goes to any shows.

This coming weekend we are off to Lake Elmo for the AWC North Central Specialty. Wish us luck.

Sniffy the Virtual Mouse

Remembering back to my university days I always start thinking of this great little experiment that Jayme got to do in her psychology classes. She got to put classical and operant conditioning into practice via a computer program that mimiced a mouse. So I decided this morning to try and find this little wonder of the computer age. Low and behold I came across Sniffy the Virtual Mouse. He's a cute little guy isn't he? Anyone up for a little behavioral modification?

Day 15 of the Raccoon Watch

Today is day 15 of the raccoon watch and so far so good. The non-scarecrow-looking-sprayer is doing the trick. Either that or the raccoon as found a better feeding ground and has choosen to not return. My fish are very happy either way though. So happy in fact that they have had little babies. Now if they would just not eat their children.

Scare Crow that Raccoon Away

So I did a little research on the web yesterday and found that there were really three options in trying to stop the sushi eating raccoon. The first is to kill the little guy. Of course those that know me know that this option isn't one I'll do. The second option is to put fox or coyote pee around the pond. I figured that this one was not going to work because the dogs already pee all over the back yard and that didn't seem to deter him at all. The last option was the Motion Activated Scarecrow. This is a motion sensing sprayer that turns on when it senses something in the area. So I went to Culvers and picked up the little bird. Oddly enough it doesn't look like a scarecrow at all in my opinion. But it definitely does spray when it senses something. I found this out while trying to set it up. Needless to say I was a bit wet. Although so far so good. The pond was untouched last night and the fish are still alive. So yeah for the Motion Activated Non Scarecrow Looking Sprayer.

Raccoon

The Raccoon has returned and this time he has eaten the two new additions to my pond. I walked outside this morning to a pond with the plants all broken and destroyed and two little half eaten fish bodies laying on the stones next to it. Makes me kind of sad cause I liked those little guys. So now the pond is back to 3 little fish and unfortunately I don't know how to keep the raccoon away so that he won't eat the others as well. That is my task for the day I think. Try to find a way to keep the raccoon away, cause the smell of dog pee is not doing the trick.
